Desi Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) โ also known as Bengal Gram or Kala Chana โ are the smaller, darker variety with a rough seed coat. They account for approximately 85โ90% of global chickpea production and are dominant in India, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Mexico.
Higher fibre content than Kabuli varieties โ 14.9โ24.6% protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron and B vitamins. Beneficial for blood sugar management due to low glycaemic index.
