About Desi Chickpeas

Desi Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) โ€” also known as Bengal Gram or Kala Chana โ€” are the smaller, darker variety with a rough seed coat. They account for approximately 85โ€“90% of global chickpea production and are dominant in India, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Mexico.

Nutritional Highlights

Higher fibre content than Kabuli varieties โ€” 14.9โ€“24.6% protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron and B vitamins. Beneficial for blood sugar management due to low glycaemic index.
